Commvault Adds AWS Glacier Deep Archive Cold Storage Support

Migrating long term data retention from tape to cloud storage has become a trending topic among current Commvault customers. Due to this, Commvault has now extended its support to include Amazon's S3 Glacier Deep Archive cold storage product. At $1 per terrabyte (less than 1 cent per gigabyte), Glacier Deep Archive's affordability has been referred to as the "Tape Killer".

With the addition of Amazon's Glacier Deep Archive, Commvault is now able to support around 40 cloud services including AWS, Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud Platform. The support will be available from service pack 15 to Commvault version 11.

The Hybrid Multicloud Experience

Over the past few years many organisations have deployed Hyper-Converged Infrastructure (HCI) as a fast path to IT modernization and hybrid cloud. The benefits of HCI include a reduction in costs, complexity and the ability to leverage a software-definded architecture for key workloads.

Now your HCI solution can serve as the foundation for a new cloud consumption model—one that lets you easily access a virtually unlimited choice of public and private cloud data services to meet the specific needs of any workload and application. This new category of HCI is built upon Data Fabric technology that gives IT the freedom to choose any compute and developer ecosystem, in any combination, across hybrid multicloud environments. Without it, IT teams risk missing the opportunity to drive competitive advantage by using any service from any cloud.

With next-stage HCI from NetApp, organisations can access their choice of data services from virtually any cloud, so IT isn’t just building a hybrid cloud, but a hybrid multicloud. With an HCI platform that enables the hybrid multicloud experience, IT teams can deliver significant benefits to their organisations, taking advantage of innovations in both cloud services and on-premises infrastructure at the same time. With the right solution, you can accelerate business, grow the bottom line, shorten development cycles and drive new levels of business agility.
